Skillhaus started in a Brooklyn brownstone.
Each floor had a different creative — a designer, a DJ, a filmmaker, a stylist. When money ran low, people traded skills to keep projects moving. A logo for a video. A shoot for a website. No budgets, just hustle.
That way of working turned into an idea: what if there was a space built for that same energy — where creatives could trade skills, connect, and help each other build? In 2022, Chad Balkum began shaping that idea into Skillhaus — a space for creative exchange, not just an app.
Now, Skillhaus is more than a tool. It’s a growing community and cultural platform. We host events, panels, and workshops that bring creatives together to share skills, ideas, and stories.
At its core, Skillhaus is about collaboration — creating access where there wasn’t any, and proving that creativity itself is enough to start something.
